Unfortunately, the only thing that kept me reading this was the plot. I think it's a pretty good concept and Victoria being in law enforcement was great.

That's the only redeeming quality I can say about this book, and I'm sorry to the author for saying it, because I tried to like this story but it just came up flat. It wasn't a smooth read, aside from the preface at the beginning, and I think more thought was put into that one section than the entire story itself. The transitions between actions were so redundant to the point that EVERY sentence of character action from Victoria or Jackson was "She did this. She did this. She put on this. He did this. He did this, and then he did this." It made the characters robotic, but the dialogue was good for the most part. It was a high contrast compared to the other writing. The transitions between where Victoria came and left an area were too rough at some parts, too.

The characters seemed to get together and go along with everything way too fast. I'm not saying it should've been a slow romance, but even during their first phone call, he called her baby and she said, "I miss you." I feel like he hadn't done anything as a person worth her mentioning this since they weren't emotionally attached on a romantic level, but a physical one, which is a big difference. She only met the man once, officially, and they barely spoke, but danced. Literally by the time they got to the car, he performed a sexual action and dropped her off at her house. I think they spoke like three sentences aside from them moaning their names so it just seemed weird of them to act like they were all lovey-dovey... It seemed more like she missed what he'd given her in terms of sexual encounters, rather than him as a person.

Also, the no condom thing on a first date, which Victoria didn't object to, seemed entirely careless on her end, the opposite of what I'd expect from an officer who's parading around as a prostitute in her male dominate field that she wants to excel in. The fact that Jackson, someone wealthy beyond comparison to the average person, didn't think about the possibility of her getting pregnant, and that she could be plotting to potentially get a paycheck for 18 years to maintain the lifestyle, seemed sketch. Most men in his position would be quick to say, "I'll get a condom," and women like her, who love their job and work for everything they have would've stopped him and asked, "Condom?"

The sex scenes were somewhat okay, but again, having to read, "She did this. He did this," over and over again during each scene made everything so redundant. I rarely say this about books, but because of the writing style, I'd say the writing was just as bad, if not worse, than that of Fifty shades of Grey, but I think people like this because of three factors: the cover, the plot and the sex. HOWEVER, this story has a lot of potential, and I think with an editor it could be polished up some, but it's got a nearly fiver star rating without the edits so I guess my review is sort of a mute point.

Sorry to the author if this review may seem offensive, just giving my opinion.

Beautiful Prey The Storm Series BWWM Romance eBook Phoenix Daniels Reviews

Victoria Price and Jackson Storm were an unlikely couple but the first time Jack saw here, he had to have her. Victoria, a fiercely independent strong woman was equally smitten by him but did not feel she belonged in his world. Her job as an undercover vice detective was her proud accomplishment and did not take to being spoiled by Jack too well. She wanted to do things on her on. She enjoyed doing her joy, and this case of finding who this serial killer, who was also stalking her, unbeknownst to her.

She was taken aback by how Jack seemed to melt her guard and she had the same affect on him. He put his life on the line to save her when her own bosses would not.

This was an interesting story full of intrigue, and suspense, with a love story mixed in. I just loved how Jack evolved from being a playboy to being smitten by a Chicago PD undercover vice detective, realizing that he absolutely could not live without her and was miserable being apart from her.
OMG OMG OMG you can’t do this! Damn! A cliffhanger! Omg, this story was amazing. I’m even ignoring the grammar and editing errors they were minor.
Jack! He can’t die! He can’t die! No no no!
I loved Victoria. She would be someone I would want to be friends with. She was classy and boy did Jack flip over her. All it took was one look at her and he was a goner. She had a great group of friends too. Loved Tracy and I hope her and Steve stay together because I think they make a great couple.
The story had twists I didn’t see coming. It kept my interest and I devoured it in one evening. I couldn’t put it down.
I did not care for the threesome on the plane. It kind of creeped me out and I am not sure why it had to be a part of the story. But I digress and say it’s part of Victoria’s character. That part of her life was a bit of a surprise for me.
His sisters were pretty cool too. I hope they find great guys too. Hint, I want this series to continue. I can’t wait to read book 2. Thank you!
I've had this book on my kindle for a bit and just got around to reading it. The reviews had me anxious to dig in uninterrupted. However, this was not the case. I found the writing style very hard to stomach. Mentioning character names in a sentence so many times had me tired. I got who the characters were and didn't need to be reminded over and over in the same sentence. The story could have been a great read if I had been drawn to it and not the unpleasant writing style.(ex. Victoria took a bath. Victoria dried off). If an editor had removed the repetitive nature, choppy narratives and added more suspense, it probably could have been a five-star book. Unfortunately, I won't continue the series unless the writing style has drastically improved. I do wish the author well in her endeavors. The more she writes, I'm sure she'll improve if she pays attention to the constructive criticism and not assume all is well because of the glowing five-star reviews.
